A man puts his experience and himself into his opinions. It’s an expression of who he is. Like for us our feelings are an expression of who we are. We hate it when men try to change or fix our feelings and tell us we shouldn’t feel this way…true? Same goes for men; they put themselves into their opinions and feel disrespected and unappreciated when we try to change their opinions.
We need to listen and see it as a great way to learn more about our man, who he is, and what he cares about.
If a woman argues and tries to change a man’s opinions, he will feel that she is trying to change him and control him. He will resist and push her away, closing off his heart and emotionally removing himself from the relationship. You don’t have to agree with him, just don’t try to change his opinion. Expressing how you feel always works better with men.
Once you listen without thinking of what you will reply and how what he says applies to you, but instead being fully on his side, your man, any man in your life, will open up more and more, and you’ll experience deeper intimacy. That’s how the friendship starts and trust develops.
To create deeper connection, ask your partner (or your brother, son, father):
- What do you value in life?
- What drives you?
- What brings you joy?
- What are your goals?
- What makes you feel appreciated?
And listen with curiosity.
